Engaged

Feb 07, 2012 17:29

I can hardly believe it as I write down the words. I am engaged. My wonderful other half asked me on 14th January to be his wifey. And I said yes. He did, afterwards, apologise that it had taken him so long. First he had waited for the contract to be extended at work, then for his brother's baby to arrive ("as I didn't want the little rugrat to ( Read more... )

CONGRATULATIONS! I'm so glad you're both happy and on the same page re this commitment. Hope you enjoy being engaged and don't let the preparations stress you out too much. That you'll know the person officiating and will be wearing your own dress will add to the special and personal.

I had a dim idea that wedding dresses via specialist shops did take so long - I think 'the wedding industry' does seem to promote long engagements - via friends and family members. But I also know someone with an unusual body shape who did something similar to you and it turned out wonderfully. I chicken out of darning, so I am in awe of your dress-making prowess.

Thank you!! I'm in awe as well - mostly about my own stupidity of choosing to burden myself with more work. Never mind, it'll be fun, I'm sure.

First of all -

CONGRATS!!!! Such awesome news!

Well, newsflash: it is a change, a big one. Whether or not you want it to be. Cos with that one tiny question and that one tiny answer, things just DO change. They way you look at each other and have that feeling of when you first were in love back again. It is a big thing. The commitment to eachother has been there before, we did talk about getting married and starting a family. But, to put it quite bluntly: it's walking the talk that's the change. And it is big.I totally agree. It changes everything even when you say 'yes'. It enhances every feeling you had prior to the little question. It boosts your comfort level to something completely different. And is such a very beautiful thing ( ... )

Thank you, how lovely of you!! x The wedding dress is still in the mock stage, so we'll see how that goes. I've got another five weeks till I need to know whether I can pull this off or whether I have to go panic-wedding-dress-shopping with my mum back home. :) x

I'm sure everything will be just fine! Keep a positive attititude (of course easier said than done, but still!) and all will be well. 5 weeks is plenty of time for things to fall into place.

Again, best of luck and much happiness. Hang on to the euphoria and comfort you share with your partner - you'll both balance each other out in the (quite possibly insane) days leading up to the big day.

Big hugs! xx

I'm so late to reply to this! (Aren't I always these days?!)

Anyway, MASSIVE CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

I don't want to go all crazy with the exlamation marks but I am really so, SO happy for you and your fiance (yay!) and you both deserve every happiness that life can bring you.

I think your plans sound amazing - and most importantly, just right for you, which I think counts. The dress making also sounds fab - a challenge, but it sounds like you've got it covered (whereas put me in front of a sewing machine and inevitably I will have stitched myself up within 3 minutes).

I hope you don't get too stressed out with all the prep and that you can enjoy being engaged and the changes it's bringing you, but it sounds like the wedding back home and the stuff you're having here sound lovely and personal and, well... I'm really, really happy for you, hon.

*BIG HUGS*
