I have some weird obsessive-compulsive thing about my books. First, my really tall books are on one shelf of my bookcase (this makes sense, though. I had to change the spacing of one of my shelves to fit them, so they get their own shelf). Then, reference books that I bought for research but don't belong to any particular class are put in alphabetical order by the first author's last name. Then, all of my textbooks, except ones that I might like to read just for the sake of reading are separated out in another part of the bookcase. THOSE books are segregated according to general subject, in alphabetical order - English, geography, history, Spanish, etc. - and then ordered according to the specific class by alphabetical order. So, English history is before medieval history is before Russian history is before women's history, for example. If there were more than one class one a subject, then it's in chronological order of the period discussed (for history) or of the time I took the class. THEN, within each class, the books are
