While the results of this
USC study on Oscar-nominated films are not exactly surprising, the numbers are pretty disheartening. Of films nominated for Academy Awards between 2007 and 2010:
- Only 32.6 percent of speaking characters were female
- Only 14.3 percent of directors were female
- Of the speaking characters analyzed for race, 78 percent were white

Isn't that awful! I mean, for how much of the US (and Hollywood/LA) population Latinos make up, it is pretty unbelievable they are still only written 2% of speaking parts. But then, as you say, 32% for women isn't great either. Ugg.
