Yep to both questions! It IS cool. Although one of my friends calls them gutters, so maybe it's just because I read too many novels set in Britian when I was little? XD

I don't have a caught/cot distinction naturally, but I learned it for my Sounds of Language class. I do have a Laura/Lara distinction, which is how I managed to learn to do it.

There's no difference for me saying 'caught' or 'cot,' but I would call it an eaves troph rather than a gutter lol. Actually, there's a couple thing's I'd say differently looking at your meme, but nothin' major.

I remember looking at dialects and speech in a linguistics class last year. Cool stuff.
