Better a home in an actual orphanage in Jakarta than the orphan's other main alternative...the brothel.
Personally I'd rather see a child being 'indoctrinated' in a Muslim, Jewish, Christian, Buddhist, heck ANY faith in even an unauthorized orphanage as long as they were getting kind treatment and food and clothing without having to pay for it by being raped repeatedly every night.
I think orphanages founded by any religion are the least of our worries, wouldn't you say?

Call me idealistic, but I believed the concept of forcing religion upon others is deeply wrong. I mean I could understand if these missionaries were just taking them in, because a Christian orphanage without the lectures is great, true. But the concept of the missionaries wanting to "plant Christian principles as early as possible" disturbs me greatly. Their religion is their heritage, it's disgusting that those missionaries would want to take that away from those poor children. They should be ashamed of themselves ( ... )

I think maybe you've got a misguided idea that all Christians are the same ;) We're honestly not all a bunch of hypocrites who are out to reform the world by force...the majority of REAL Christians hope to make an impact just by caring for others and sharing their faith. Just because these people wanting to build an orphanage to care for the kids and at the same time share their faith does NOT mean that they are going to forcefeed religion into the kids day after day after day and beat them if they don't convert. If the kids decide to stay Muslim, real Christians will respect that. They may not like it but they'll let the kids choose. If you think the forcible way is how Christians work, I'd hate to think what kinds of people calling themselves 'Christians' you've run up against ( ... )

lol...oh Paul was one of only many who helped spread Christian ideals during that time. And if you ever feel like going to look, he himself points out in many of his writings that Christianity is for both Jews and non-Jews.

Anyway, I think Christian doctrine probably isn't something I should get started on because it takes forever to wind down! Besides, I don't intend to cause a fight with you or anything, just have a discussion, and now I'm going to sleep.

Well you may not agree with me Sally, but I agree with you 100%!
...it doesn't matter that the vast majority who follow that religion are caring and good and thoughtful, stuff like this totally overshadows all that... < Because we will always look at the actions of the most passionate people in a movement, the most extreme people. Otherwise, why would Islam be demonised so much in today's society by so many people? Ignorant is it may seem, it is the passionate actions of people who believe strongly enough to take action in such a subjective way that we'll sit up and listen to.

...Religion is both heritage and choice for any individual... < My point being, in posting this, to high light that I feel the choice of Islam is being taken away from these children by their Christian "principles" because in all my experience with Christians - which is considerable seeing as I was Christian for the vast majority of my life (which people seem to forget when lecturing me passionately about my equally passionate dislike of the Christian faith) - ( ... )
