It's good that you're thinking about the future, but I wouldn't worry too much about it right now. Don't give yourself an ulcer or anything. Sure, keep it in the back of your mind, but also remember that University can be really flexible for what you take. If you decide you'd rather study something else later, you can switch, and maybe do an extra year if needed. I have second thoughts about what I'm taking sometimes, too, but it really is too early to tell. I'm just going to ride it out this year, and see how I like it. My other advice would be to do what makes you happy. I know everyone says it, but it's true. I'd rather you be a happy writer for Vogue, than a depressed doctor. Definitely wouldn't be reassuring if you were giving me life-or-death surgery. Love ya!

i think sonia is right that you have to do whatever will make you happy.

at the same time i have a hard time believing in happiness - i think people create their own happiness or dont regardless of circumstances and it is unreasonable to think that one career choice will make you happy.

but obviously the choice still has to be made, so what on what basis do you choose?

my thoughts are in alignment with yours that you should choose whichever will improve the human condition most, but i disagree that this means choosing academia. there is value in some art and there are some academic professions which dont benefit humanity at all, the obvious example is the lawyer who successfully and knowingly defends the bad guy.

im still torn between music and science, and i dont know if i ever wont be.

but thats just what i think.
