Lex wants to go home. He's thirteen and he's had more than enough of boarding school. It's almost spring break anyway and his mother isn't well. His mother is dying

When he phones home his mother is too tired his mother is dying to come to the phone. He speaks with Pamela and she agrees to speak to his father. She calls back precisely six minutes later with Lionel's verdict: no.

But his mother is sick his mother is dying and there's a rising sense of urgency in Lex's chest. He tries appealing directly to his father only to be informed that his father would not be accepting Lex's calls for the near future.

He wants to go home but he can't. A Luthor caged is a dangerous thing.

Two days later, when the explosion in the chemistry wing of Excelsior comes it takes out three labs, a supply closet and two coat rooms.

As far as Lex is concerned the smell of sulfur beats napalm as the smell of victory.
