To Lex there is nothing more oppressive than being in Gotham.

It's not the weight of its history that bothers him. After all, Lex enjoys history. He studies it, dissects it, analyzes it, and does what he can to learn its lessons well. He's been drilled and dieted on history and not just from Lionel, his mother had been in love with the past. He supposes she fancied herself a modern Olympias to Lionel's Philip. His parents were so poorly matched in some aspects but in their delusions of grandeur they were a perfect pair.

The difference is, that while Lex appreciates history the weight and breadth of it he does not choose to live in the past. What interests Lex is, first and foremost, tomorrow. And there in lies the fundamental difference: Gotham is a city of what once was and Metropolis is a city of what will be.

But his preferences don't really make a difference in this trip. He's not in Gotham to sight see or rubberneck at Bruce's troubles. He's there because Harry says he's "FINE" and Lex understands all too well that sometimes when Harry's FINE it means Fucked up Insecure Neurotic and Emotional. Unlike Bruce who was God knows where - Lex had a front row seat to Harry's "Overdose Years". He doesn't think that Harry's using again. It's always a possibility because that's the nature of addiction, but Lex doesn't think he's there yet. But there's something to be concerned about when Kara asks him to talk to Harry.

Once he's said and done what he can, he'll go home and appreciate the freedom of tomorrow even more.
