How can God be so benevolent and wonderful if he tortured Job just to prove a point?

God didn't directly torture Job; he merely allowed Satan to touch Job. The only condition to the bet was Satan wasn't allowed to kill Job. If God had even remotely eased the torment, Satan would've proved his point and had bragging right for eternity.

Plus, as soon as the bet was through, Job was once again prosperous and reaped ten-fold what he lost.

But, I'll admit, I've asked that question many times.....oh wait....I converted to Paganism out of Christianity. Whoa

Hah, thats weird... my boyfriend and I were having this conversation not that long ago.

I've heard people argue that its basically the bible's statement as to why you should never lose faith, but isn't it sort of fucked up that God let Satan torture Job just to prove that in the end Job will never scorn him? The most confusing part about all of it is when God appears before Job just to tell him that he, as a human, will never understand and therefore shouldn't try.

But I mean, Old Testament vs. New Testament. God was a pretty A+ douchebag if you look at the Old Testament. Its not a matter of being benevolent or wonderful so much as moving the world towards its ultimate salvation.

Then again, I'm Catholic... what do I know?
