Hooray Friday.

Quick update: looks like we won't be puppy-sitting after all, they moved Becky's surgery up to next weekend. Also, yay for getting paid! (and getting our tax refund, it looks like!)  Both of these things will be very useful for moving (if the landlord ever gets back in touch with me...)

Not sure if this would work or not, but you could always tell your's and Phi's parents that your are only visiting once per year and if they want to see you more than that then they need to come visit you. I know that it would probably go over like a lead balloon, but it's all I could realy think of. It is exactly what I would do with my parents if I were in the same situation.

Yes, I do know how lucky I am. Far enough away that I can be my own person, but close enough that if I need them (like when I had that heart thing two years ago) they can be here before the day's out.

You're definitely going to have to put your foot (feet?) down. Tell them that the highways that go into Texas and Alabama also come out.

I'm jumping on the "put your foot down" bandwagon even though it won't go over as well as it SHOULD. Tell them flat out, we can't afford it and no one will watch the animals... sorry.

My mom doesn't want me wasting gas to bring Landon over to her house (15 minutes away) so she comes to pick him up because she wants to save us money because she makes a million times more than we do. So I know if we moved away, we wouldn't have the issue you are having... with my family. Will's family we would just never see unless we went to them... I'd be ok with that but Will wouldn't. :p
