Anti-war rant...

The last attacks of note in the USA occurred 5+ years ago, with the largest attack on American soil since (and before) the "9/11" attack was one killing 13 people, however the people in Iraq and Afghanistan are still suffering today from terrorism *and* "collateral damage". 3,000 died in the world trade centres attack. Since then more than 300,000 were killed in the first few years of the war (estimated to be 850,000+ now). Many killed by US attacks. It's all a matter of perspective. As to who is or is not a terrorist. Personally, I'd be pretty terrorised if I had regular air-strikes and missile attacks made on my home town.
Whilst all the innocents killed can be 'justified' by saying it's for their own good. But I don't quite see how being dead is for their good.

Saying "It's their fault for starting it" is even worse than starting it. It implies a lack of ignorance, as well as a conscious decision to fall to their level.

But it is a thing of perspective. People in those countries such as Iraq and Afghanistan probably say the same thing as you. They'd say that they aren't killing innocents to scare them into cooperation, that they're casualties of a war their own countrymen started and are continuing.

850,000 people killed because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time for the above reason doesn't really sound proportional to me. In proportional terms, that'd be like killing 3 million Americans civilians, then saying "casualties of war" [based on 2% of Iraqi and Afghanistani people being killed] as opposed to the actual figure of 5,200 military personnel, and 3,000 civilians.

I'll have to check this figure, but assuming that terrorism hasn't increased since the war in the middle east started *against* terrorism, the world deaths to terrorism since 2001 would be around 25,000. I need to check this figure, as if it's anything greater than that, then that would indicate that the war against terrorism is proving, understandably, to be counter-productive.

I'm not saying any of it's right or in any way justifiable, just that it's sad that so few people seem to care about the 850,000 killed through collateral damages.

To be honest, if someone came here and killed 1% of the people in my country, I'd be pretty pissed off.

People in America feel that bad about the 3,000 killed in terrorist attacks over there, just imagine how it would feel if that happened 1,000 times the size. The equivalent of bombing Chicago to the ground.

That's how the people in Iraq and Afghanistan must feel after the war so far. And then the people who instigated it start shoving democracy down their throats!

Imagine that. The hate felt from the "9/11" bombing multiplied by 1,000. It'd be enough to make you want to explode...
