In light of Rene Walling and ReaderCon

You know what i would support?  An "alliance" of Equal Opportunity in Fandom of some sort, in light of the Rene Walling situation (ReaderCon), and in light of ongoing, chronic instances of harassment by fen and SMOFs alike. Same for tech conferences.  Basically a body of "governance" that would certify a board / convention policies as "concurrent ( Read more... )

Yes, we both know Rene, and it's disappointing. I actually rather like him in person from all the times I've met him, but then I'm a guy and never been the target. I certainly support the con-com's decision (not the board's overruling of the ban), and I'm glad this is all coming out.

I don't know yet. It was just an idea. Perhaps something that could be (as suggested by one SMOF) discussed at a SMOF-con, but the risk is going to be getting committees and boards to agree to something approaching transparency and a "sunshine" policy on proceedings surrounding the application of sanctions against an individual.
