finding it hard to bareeb

I just dug up my old list of covers I like better than the originals to add DJ Sammy's cover of "Heaven" by Brian Adams. I had no idea it was a cover until I heard the original on the radio the other day and thought that I'd fallen into some terrible alternate universe (again).

What would you add to that list?

I have plenty of songs that fall into this category, but they're mostly of the "Covers that were more famous because they were better than the originals." For example, Joan Jett's cover of I Love Rock 'n' Roll is much better than the Arrows original. Also, some of the covers I like better than originals maybe don't count because they're songs that were not written by the artists who performed them. For example, I Heard it Through the Grapevine was recorded by Gladys Knight first, but I prefer Marvin Gaye's version, but neither of them wrote the song to begin with, so I guess they're both covers or something?

Oh, I really like Ike and Tina's cover of Proud Mary more than the original song. I'm pretty sure that's what you're talking about.

Jeff Buckley, Jr's cover of "Hallelujah", Michael Hutchence's cover of Iggy Pop's "The Passenger".

ooh, I've never heard Michael Hutchence's cover of "The Passenger". I like Siouxsie's cover about as much as the original.

That's the cover of Hallelujah that's in every movie with a sad montage, right? I think I like that one better than the original also.

The version in Shrek is Rufus Wainwright's version, which you can find here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uMrZ7lChK-g

I think Jeff Buckley's kicks the crap out of that one, you can find it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AratTMGrHaQ

If I had to add anything to what I responded with last time, I would add:
Slick Iediot's version of "Ain't Talkin' Bout Love", the 32Crash version of "Get The Balance Right", Thomas Fehlmann's version of "On The Road Again" (or The Rockets version, either one), and the Alien Sex Fiend version of "Silver Machine".

Oh, and I wouldn't remotely say "better", but the recent Pet Shop Boys cover of "I'm In Love with a German Film Star" is pretty damn amazing.
