Somebody asked me for a list of quintessential classic Doctor Who episodes.

Well, OK, nobody actually asked me, but that's never stopped me from yammering about random crap before. So here's a list of quintessential classic Doctor Who episodes that are available on Netflix watch instantly:

I know it's not on Netflix (but it IS on YouTube), but if we're talking quintessential stories, at least one title springs to mind and that would be The Caves of Androzani. It's probably one of the darkest, meanest Dr. Who stories ever made. All of the characters are assholes and no light-hearted humor or any of that bit, it's just a very brutal story with a lot of death and destruction in a very visceral way and it ends with Peter Davison basically dying. It's probably the most intense a grim send-off for a Doctor ever and one of the best stories for sure.

neat! I don't think I've ever seen that since I'm not much of a fan of Peter Davidson Doctor Who, but I'll check it out!

The Peter Davison years were surprisingly good, or at least underrated I think.

If nothing else, the Black Guardian Trilogy is worth checking out (Mawdryn Undead, Terminus, Enlightenment)

That episode where there's the weird, cactus version of Tom Baker.

Hey, what about the Five Doctors? I don't remember what it was about, but damn if it didn't have 5 Doctors all at once.

Did it? Bummer. You'd think "That'll make it 5 times cooler". Unless they did it wrong, then 5 is the denominator and all is awful. I suggest watching it again, on mute, with mix of Ministry and Tool playing.
