so last thursday I rolled into orgo lab lab, like usual. Normally it doesnt matter because I roll in late, goof around for 10 minutes, do the experiment and always manage to be one of the first few out. Must be the asian nerd thing. It pisses off the non-minorities in the class that my grades are higher than theirs and I only put in a fraction of lab work they put in. It's definitely hilarious. word.
anyways, I roll in late and the TA, Brian, goes "Lily....oh Lily, you're late again. and you just missed a quiz. You know I cant let you take this, right?" *sigh*, fuck me. I missed an easy 10 point pop quiz. Oh well, I think to myself. So I sit down and stare blankly at Brian and shrug, letting him know I understand. Brian returns to writing on the board. Suddenly he turns around and looks me straight in the eye: 'Lily, do you have any shame?" Shame? What does this have to do with chemistry? What an odd question. But Brian's pretty awesome, so I give him a truthful answer.
"No, No I don't." The class snickers at my reply. Mostly because most of these people have heard all sorts of rumors about me...some true, some false. I think Ive become some sort of entertainment to these people. Whatever. So Brian says "Im going to give you an oral quiz on this weeks experiment. If you get ALL the answers correct, I will give you 10/10 and everyone in this section 11/10. Lord knows they need that 11/10....but....if you get ANY of them wrong, I give you a zero and their grades will stay whatever they earned." Sweet, a challenge! Im a better girl, you know I am. So of course, it's on.
Brian procedes to ask me ANYTHING and EVERYTHING about the lab...name of the epxierment...compounds used, which compounds are deadly, what products are formed, what intermediate substrates are formed (trick question because SN2 reactions dont have an intermediate substrate with any appreciable lifetime!)...everything.
I KNEW ALL THE ANSWERS. So I earned a 10/10 for myself and the rest of the class 11/10. Im definitely the class favorite.
So Ive been intensely listening to this one net radio. < http://Mangoradio.us> . It's solid stuff, seriously. On Wednesday nights, the always lovely Web Kittyn wows us with her amazing line up of awesome songs and witty off the wall comments. her blunt mannerisms and her over abundant use of the word "fuck" will never never NEVER get tiring. She tells it like it is, a rarity now a days. Thoroughly enoyable. Top notch work, WK. So definitely recomment that you listen in on Wedensadays, starting at 9:30 pm. Plus, if you're a band who doesn't suck and needs exposure, drop off music to me! I can get it to her and, if she thinks you dont suck, there's a good chance she'll plug your band. It's a great way to get talented unknowns to me...well, known. and since a good chunk of you ARE bands, you definitely should get involved.
