Good lord, we usually love this scene because it introduces Elizabeth to Jack, but the change of point-of-view you've included puts it in a much different (and possibly more appropriate) perspective. Your heart just stops when your children are in danger, no matter how old or capable they are. It makes sense Gov Swann would be so protective of Elizabeth since she is all he has left. It conjures up images too of when she was little and he is so weary of her being fascinated with piracy. "Or had the sea already swept her away, forever?" So chilling, probably because she will be swept away, only in a different way. Good thing coincidences/fate plays a large part in the POTC universe or we may have never gotten to know our favorite spirited governor's daughter!

And rightfully so! An auspicious moment in PotC canon, indeed! :-)

One has to wonder (as I did) what the heck Weatherby had to have been going through, being Elizabeth's father ... what must have been running through his mind, when he thought she might have fallen to her death.

And Weatherby strikes me as someone who has always been especially protective of Elizabeth, not only because he loves her as his daughter, but because she's the last remnant, the last reminder, of his late wife whom he loved, and lost. I've always felt that their father/daughter bond was a particularly strong one, forged not only of love but of grief, precisely

You have such a knack for writing missing scenes, filling in the gaps, providing the perfect insight.
Oh, my! Thank you so much for the perfectly wonderful compliment! :-)
I have to admit, I DO love coming up with "missing scenes" that "fit" within the framework of PotC canon -- the scenes we didn't actually get to see, but logically COULD have happened, if the camera had kept rolling, or shifted focus to another character's POV. I'm so glad these scenes also "work" for you! :-)
That was STUNNING. Amazing drabble.
I'm absolutely thrilled that you found it so! Thank you so much for reading, and for your exceedingly kind words! :-)
