“James Norrington!” Swann greeted warmly. “Returned from London, I see! We’ve missed your company these past eight months…”
Scanning the ball guests, James spied a creature in honey brocade, golden ringlets cascading from swanlike nape, down a long, straight back tapering to narrow waist above full-billowing skirts. Head turned slightly, holiday candlelight gently kissed a delicately-curved cheek.
James, instantly smitten, stood in breathless wonder.
“Elizabeth, dear,” Weatherby called. “Come, see who’s here!”
The object of James' attention turned, came forward, smiling. Stunned speechless, he recognised the saucy child, now transformed to lovely young woman.
“Captain Norrington!” Elizabeth beamed. “Welcome home…”
