The NSCE's response to Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed

I am thoroughly convinced that everyone on this project is patently dishonest at best and criminal at worse. I'll let you do the reading to figure out why.

Oh, and Russ? There is no "evolutionist" side. There's the ID folks and then there's everyone else. Notice that the vast majority of ( Read more... )

There is a lot of countervailing evidence not presented in these sorts of films--it makes it not worth my time to even try and debunk them... why must we have this same discussion over and over again?*

*Kevin De Laplante (popular philosophy prof if you don't know) announced in class today that he is going to see it. When I asked him in private why he would do such a thing, he responded that it was so he could gain credibility with the kinds of people who need convincing of the true nature of the ID debate.

I'm trying to help a friend of mine understand that these asshats don't even deserve to have their movie pirated. Last I checked, he still wants to pay his hard earned $10 or whatever to see it.

Well ID is a nice belief, just not science. If it is good science, it will become considered credible. It wouldn't be the biggest revolution ever in scientific understanding.

I hate liars.
I hate thieves.
I hate willful ignorance.

I hate hypocrisy, most of all.

In my experience anger is real response to perceived injustice. However, it is only the surface emotion and typically covers another emotion. As I see it the only way to remedy feeling this way is to make all liars, thieves, etc. to change or to deal with the emotions beneath so that they don't cause you discomfort. This isn't to say that you turn off your response to injustice, but rather to deal with the confounding emotions so that you may deal with the injustices with peace... because your anger only hurts you.

There's something larger if you step back and look at it. lux_aeturna May 6 2008, 15:47:52 UTC
I'm not angry about this. I have conditioned myself to ignore humanity's tendency to groupthink.

There is something I'm angry about, though. I don't know how to explain it to you properly, especially since you are not a member of any non-majority class by any stretch of the word. Ask if you really want to know, but I reserve the right to be angry at you if you can't put yourself into someone else's shoes. ;-)
