Name: Lucas
Age: 18 (birthday: November 10)
Hometown/Region: Sandgem/Sinnoh
Class: Trainer
Team:

Infernape, male - Lucas’ first Pokémon. At first, Lucas wasn’t too particular towards him, but they soon got along just fine and he is now the closest out of all his Pokémon.

Alakazam, male - Very serious. All the time. Sometimes Lucas imagines that Alakazam’s reading his mind. Actually, he’s not really sure he’s imagining it.

Clefable, female - Yes, he has a Clefable. Don’t laugh.

Honchkrow, male -- Makes up for Lucas' more "girly" Pokemon by being badass.

Frosslass, female - Pretty shy. Lucas dotes on her, which is fitting enough given the time it took to catch and evolve her.

Lanturn, female - Ornery and annoying to battle. She loves inflicting statuses on opponents.

In PC:

Lopunny, male - Used for contests. Lucas is sometimes embarrassed by him, because, well, it’s a male Lopunny.

Bidoof, male - the Pokémon he caught for demonstration for Dawn. He couldn’t really bear to release it.

History:

Lucas had been Professor Rowan’s assistant ever since he was a child. Both of his parents worked in Professor Rowan’s lab so Lucas had been exposed to Pokémon for a long time. He had never been able to have his own, however, waiting until his tenth birthday. When he finally aged to ten, two other children also got roped into getting Pokémon as well; a boy and a girl from the next town over. Lucas was put in charge of helping them along their way. He obliged, enjoying starting off the way for his companions, although the boy Barry ran off too fast for Lucas to do much with him.

Throughout the rest of his journey through Sinnoh, Lucas would find himself sent on errands to locate the two to give them various advice or other such things; unavoidably he began forming a friendship with them. However, it wasn’t long after that Team Galactic started acting up, humiliating him by taking his Pokedex in Veilstone and then the fiasco at Lake Verity, both incidents ending in being rescued by the girl, Dawn. Lucas was embarrassed, but that didn’t stop him from admiring her adept talent at battling.

Soon Team Galactic’s plan began reaching its climax, bringing Dawn and Barry to the top of Mt. Coronet for a stunning encounter with the legendary Pokémon Giratina, Dialga and Palkia. Lucas and Professor Rowan ended up witnessing the event from the sidelines, but Lucas was in complete awe. He had never expected to see something of that caliber before, and it completely blew him away. Amazed and frightened, Lucas realized soon after he could never be as strong as his friends, let alone defeat an entire team and subdue a legend. He had been humble before, but this dumped him into the depths of a realization about his ability. He was really only mediocre at best, especially compared to them.

Barry and Dawn continued on their journey, Dawn even going on to defeat the Elite Four. Lucas was very happy for them, but his parents began to cast a disapproving eye on him. This hurt him even more than before and he began to feel resentment. Not at Dawn or Barry, but at himself. After all, if his friends could achieve such heights, why couldn’t he?

During the six years afterward, Lucas began to train more aggressively than he had previously. He challenged several Gyms, even winning a few badges for himself, but he never quite got into it as much as his friends had. Eventually he began dabbling in Contests on his way through Hearthome one day; to his surprise he found it fun. After capturing a Buneary and raising it to be used in a Contest, which occupied much of his time, he managed to win up through the ranks to a Cool Contest Master Ribbon. Lucas lightened up on himself afterwards and began enjoying himself more, returning from a period of self-deprecation to the pleasant attitude he was more known for.

Personality:
Lucas is overall a very sweet-natured boy. He’s very kind and polite to most everyone, and is usually found with a small smile on his face. He rarely gets angry or loses his temper, which often got his parents’ friends to comment when he was younger on how mature he was. He wasn’t exactly sure whether or not to agree with them, but it seems to be the case now. Lucas is a serious-natured youth, with a gentle and modest temperance.

He’s also pretty good at looking like he knows what he’s doing. Lucas likes to try to carry himself with an air of confidence, even if he’s not the best Trainer. He doesn’t show it too often when he gets nervous, but when he’s embarrassed, oh, it shows. He blushes hard, all the way up to his eartips. It’s amusing to watch, actually.

He also has a habit of worrying over people close to him. If they get into a difficult or dangerous position, he’ll fuss until they’re better again. He’ll go out of his way to do things for them, attempting to help in any way possible.

Unlike his usually calm demeanor, however, Lucas has some uncertainty issues. Due to his falling behind his friends, he’s become self-conscious at times, with less belief in himself and his abilities. His parents didn’t really help matters either, showing their disappointment. Because of this, he has a harder time telling himself that he can do things, and makes him wonder how much of his modesty is actually truth.

Sample I:

[The receiver kicks on. Lucas’ voice filters through.]

Ah, well, hello. There seems to be a problem with the Trainer Rankings…? Well, the top is business as usual, but, where I’m usually placed….

[A pause. You can almost hear him frowning thoughtfully.]

Well, I’m in last. I understand that I am far from being top par, but to be placed at the bottom? I feel I can’t quite agree with that... Everything else seems to be in order, so is it a malfunction, perhaps? Surely it will pass in time, but for the moment, it appears to be in disarray. Hopefully, it will be fixed soon, but… Maybe I’m… Well, no. I hope to see it fixed soon.

[It switches off.]

Sample II:
“Another day, another trek through a forest,” Lucas murmured, half to himself and half to the Frosslass that floated along behind him. He’d left his Honchkrow in the Pokémon Center the day before, which left him the necessity of making his way through Eterna Forest. He let a sigh pass through his lips as he trudged through the grass that ensnared his legs as if it was trying to trap him there. The trees left dappled patches of sun on the ground, and Lucas looked up in time to see a Beautifly pass through one of the sun spots. He wouldn’t have given it much thought, simply passing it off as a part of nature, if it wasn’t for the shine that reflected off the Pokémon and into his eyes.

Lucas’ attention was called immediately. He snapped out of the daze he had been in and looked straight at the Bug Pokémon with sudden clarity. No doubt- it had to be of a different color than usual, what with its violet wings.

Instinctively he reached for his bag- surely there was something--anything--for him to throw so that he might possibly catch it. He dug deeper and deeper into his bag, finding…nothing.

Lucas looked up desperately, hoping that the Beautifly would still be there, so he could just do something. Anything, really. But the Pokémon’s interest in him had quickly thinned and it flitted away, unconcerned with his self-beration.

“Note to self,” he muttered quietly, his Frosslass tugging on his sleeve anxiously as he ran his hand down his face. “Bring Pokeballs.”
