Sigh. So it has happened.

Now basic accounts have advertisments, visible to anyone who isn't logged in. And I'm conflicted. Sure, luxshine is paid, so there are no advertisement here, and I'm going to flee as soon as we have a viable place to flee but lux_files is basic ( Read more... )

I post my stories to my LJ and then archive them on my own website. Happily for me, I can pay for an entirely frivolous website and not have it defaced with advertising! You could use lux_files just as an archive so that people can find your stories there, but do the first postings on this journal?

That could be a possibility. I have to see exactly where the ads are being put, to see if they're on the postings (Like in IJ) or if they're just in the profiles/main page...

Thanks, Pen!

I have to agree with Den and KC, the ads aren't really a problem for me. But obviously that doesn't help if they are for you.

Maybe move them to your site with links on here? That way you should get comments.

That's another possibility I hadn't considered. I'm going to start writing a pros and cons list to see what can I do.

If you're worried about spamming everyoneones flists you could always post everything backdated and then put a sticky post at the top with links to all stories.

I have all my stuff on my community, and archived at my website as well.

My (hopeful) solution to the problem is that I included links to the LJ entries leading to each fic at the bottom of the page, with my email link and form link, so three seperate links at the bottom of each fic listed on my site. That way if people prefer to leave an LJ comment they can, if they prefer email feedback, that's available as well, and I also have a form set up on my site, if they'd rather use that option.

That being said, I don't see many ads at all. Between the host file settings I use and the ad blocking capabilities of my browsers, I very seldom see anything other than a 'this page can not be displayed' notice in the advertising boxes.
