I'm an idiot, and some puzzling thoughts

Sep 30, 2009 21:12

Third time this year I forget my keys and have to sleep at my aunt Clemen's place. Yay me.

There is one thing I honestly don't get... We all know Polansky pleaded guilty ( to a lesser charge, but still guilty), that he escaped to avoid jail time and that no one doubts that he sexually abused that girl (even his most ardent defendants will say he commited statutory rape as she was 13).

On the other hand, Michael Jackson was found innocent of all charges, there was never proof of the so-called abuse AND the supposed victims all took the stand and swore nothing ever happened.

Then how come that even now we hear jokes about "pedo" Jackson, and how he was obviousky deranged, but it's "morally" wrong to put Polansky behind bars to make him serve the ridiculous sentence of 40 fucking days?! Is it because Polansky's known victim (because there were others) was a girl and MJ's accusers were boys? Because of the memory of Sharon Tate? Why?

( And don't get me started on Polansky's apologists. One of my frienrs is one, and I was cutting him some slack until I read the Grand Jury transcript. How can anyone be willing to put that aside just because the man is a great director?) And yes, the icon was on purpouse.
