Okay. So. The best way to say this is to just say it and let it all hang
loose.
Three days ago Danielle and I were in a busy in Goa on our way to
thetrain station. We were winding our ways through the hills and
therewas an explosion noise (a tire, I think- the day was really hot
andthe tires were practically bald) and the driver lost control of
thebus. We rolled over 3/4 times, which means- rightsideup to on one
sideto upsidedown to on the other side. Danielle and I, with the
exceptionof a few bruises and cuts, are fine. Some other passengers
were not sofortunate. A few people were really hurt. I don't know it
was such aweird experience. After the bus stopped rolling the first
thing I didwas scramble for a seat so I wasn't sitting on anyone. And
then Ipunched through this window in the back hoping that it was
anemergency exit window but it was all barred up from the outside.
Andthen I helped people get out through the windows that were (at
thispoint) on the top of the bus. And then I got out. And then I did
firstaid using Danielle's first aid kit. And then Danielle and I took
thiswoman to a hospital. And THEN only THEN did I realize what all
hadreally happened.So. Danielle and I had just been discussing earlier
if the first aidki t was a waste of space. I was doubtful that we would
use it, as wasDanielle. Additionally, we'd just been talking about how
we wouldreact if we were in a situation like that- where people are
reallyhurt, etc. I guess we know now. My hands were shaking really
badly forthe first 5 minutes and I just kind of turned on. Or off. I
don'tknow. I was very present but at the same time extremely absent.
Thatdoesn't make any sense. Oh well. So, for the past few days, Danielle
and I have been in Kochi, which isthis great city in Kerala. Today we
got Ayurvedic massages andyesterday we went to a bazaar and sat in a
park and went through the
backwaters. Ayurvedic massages are really puretty embarrassing.
Theytake off all your clothes and then rub every part of you,
includingyour pubic area and breasts. But it feels good now.The
backwaters are nice. I want a little house on the backwaters. Itwould
be so cool!We miss Christian. Danielle said earlier this morning that
withoutChristian, every day is like a little estrogen party. The manager
of the hotel we're staying at speaks very very poorenglish and he
shouts as if it will improve our understanding. It'sreally irritating.
I also slipped down the marble stairs after theyhad been washed and
fell down half a flight, landing on my butt.(Still only bruises. Thank
god we're young.) In Kochi we've had oursecond round of coconut milk
still in coconuts.Digestion is still strong. Danielle and I also find
it ironic that wewere worri about getting dysentery and instead got in
a v. serious busaccident.
