TWIST!

Nov 05, 2015 05:45

So a few months back, I was talking with my friend M., a counselor back home in Portland who dyed green stripes in her hair. I was telling her that I was super jealous that she had the kind of job where she could dye her hair green on a whim since librarians in upstate tend to be more conservative and I'm job hunting. Well, guess what ( Read more... )

Thanks! I know I will. I'm already rocking a plan to up YA circulation (which they said was their main goal) by pulling all the blocked teen records and sending them letters inviting them to come in and get fine amnesty or work off their fines (whichever admin will go for).

Nice! For some reason I'd never considered it before substituting for the position and then I realized I love it and that it would be perfect for me.

YAY! That's awesome! It's good to take risks. And, this job sounds fun!

A friend of mine recently told me about an article that describes how women tend to apply for jobs only if they feel they have 100% of the qualifications where men will "fake it until they make it".

I'm not sure which article it was but this one alludes to the same thing: http://www.forbes.com/sites/nextavenue/2014/09/11/are-women-too-timid-when-they-job-search/

That is very interesting. I feel like my husband is the one who takes the more "female" approach described to job applications and honestly it drives me nuts. I think Sara was the one that taught me to read the job ads like suggestions and to just make up a pitch about why you're the best one and ignore the ad. It's worked out remarkably well for me in the past. This is just the biggest "stretch" I've ever tried in terms of not having 1/2 the qualifications listed. I just really wanted the job and thought I'd be mad at myself if I didn't at least try. I always fake it till I make it. I wonder if that's because I feel like I've been doing that my whole life anyhow. Like buying a car before I know how to drive. Or telling people that I party to get in with a friend group when what I mean is that I've gone to lunch before with other people who told em about a party. I guess I'm just a natural born truth stretcher/dreamer?
