First off, thanks so much for the lovely birthday wishes guys! I wasn't expecting them, particularly since I've been so quiet lately and it really made me smile. Thank you

I have definitely had this kind of stuck-in-a-rut feeling (and usually the same realisation as you, "omg all I talk about is work"). I mean you have been pretty busy over the summer and maybe not had time for much out of work stuff, and classes and things tend not to run then, so you may find you feel less stuck once we get into autumn, but I think it's always good evaluating how you're spending your time and whether it's what you want to be doing with it. Re: creative things, could you take a class on them or join a group? That can be a way of tasting stuff without buying a lot of kit, and you'd meet new people too.
Well, maybe a bit. But I'm sure it'll be fine! I'LL MAKE IT WORK!
Summer is eclipsing and yeah, autumn stuff may trigger things being better. I wouldn't mind finding a new class ... I might do some googling, see if I can find anything local. There's a few things that would be fun to try ...
Aw, happy birthday again! I hope you enjoy the Kindle. It will at least open up the possibilty for all those free out of copyright books the net has hanging about. Or the ones that are formatted okay for Kindle anyway. And you can go away and take 200 books with you! You'll have to see, I suppose. (I don't have one either so I don't know. What is a house not covered in paper books??)
Good luck with finding something new - or a new enthusiasm for something old, even, whatever works for you!
I have to admit,a lot of my desire for the Kindle is all the free out of copyright things rather than actually buying stuff on ebooks! There's a few authors that I like that have published ebooks only so I'll get them but I can't say that I'm thinking of turning to ebooks only! I need paper books, dammit! But yeah, being able to carry loads of books around will be kind of cool!
I'll think of something. Not sure what yet, but I'm thinking! :)
I have a Kindle which I used a lot to start with and then discovered I missed real books so went back to them. I still take my Kindle on holiday and I've used it to take a chance on authors that I might not otherwise go for. I've made some good discoveries that way and also some books are more easily available on Kindle. It's an addition to my reading habit but not a replacement for books.
Yeah, that's what I'm thinking really - I know I'll never give up real books for all sorts of reasons but I think a Kindle might be a good supplement and certainly open things up for random interesting bits and peices. And hurrah for being able to carry LOTS of books everywhere! :)
