It's midterm test time, so there are a few hours of tests in the morning and then the afternoons are free. Later this month a group of students from India will be visiting, and yesterday there was an Indian cooking demonstration that parents and staff could participate in. And now I'm a Japanese Language teacher, so I get to share these types of stories with my students. I kind of worry whether I'm "turning them off" to Japan or not, but between our school being so diverse and my having the the experience of having been in that kind of situation despite my being rather privileged here, they seem to appreciate the frankness as well as my willingness to discuss it. I do make sure to try and keep a positive-neutral spin on it all, though.
I like what I'm doing now. I'd be more than happy to go back to visit, including helping host an exchange or something, but yeah, I don't think I could've dealt with that kind of stuff for the rest of my life.
