And the new doctor is...

So, wow! Congratulations to Matt Smith. I have to say my initial reaction was a bit like my icon here...What?! And he is?

But after watching him during his interview section I can totally see why they decided on him - he's got that kinda mysterious, affable, a bit zany aura around him. Like they said the Doctor is childish and exuberant, as demonstrated by Matt, but he also has a mercurial and mysterious element to his character which I can totally see Matt getting.

I'm really intrigued to know what his wardrobe choice will be! I'm guessing that, although I love the 'young 9' look he's got going on in the preview photoshoots of him, that that will not be his choice. I'm thinking more of a move back to Peter Davidson's Doctor - a bit like an Oxbridge graduate, what with the floppy hair. He's a bit like a young Hugh Grant don't you think? But one that looks like he can get really angry and 'I'm the Doctor, the only authority' on people. I can see why they said that he looks older than he is...he does give off the impression of being able to play someone who has been around for a really long time

I think my only concern is about how SM is going to handle his new, young, handsome Doctor. We all know he likes his companions getting it on with the Doctor, and I am seriously concerned that he's going to make good use of Matt's age and looks and make him a bit of a man whore. Is anyone else slightly worried that this might be the direction they take? I suppose it really depends on the new companion which is another big guessing game. I'd love it to be another guy - or maybe bring in a couple of new companions.

All I know is that Jack is going to love the new look!

So all in all my conclusion is...I'm excited to see the 11th Doctor which I wasn't sure I would be, although I will be in floods of tears when Mr. Tennant leaves our screens as the Doctor. I suppose another positive is that Matt Smith has acted with Billie Piper in both SDOACG and with her during her Sally Lockhart stint. We know they obviously work well together, which may work well if ever Rose and Ten II return to our screens. (I live in hope...some might call it denial. But hey! It gives DT a very very plausible and easy way for him to guest star once he leaves)

So once again, well done Matt Smith - Bring on 2010
