We are back home after our gas leak experience!

Yesterday started out like any other day, except that it was really cold and icy out. Timmy had an eye doctor appointment, so we were loading the kids in the car, and Madeline took off across the yard and I went to get her. I never thought I would say this, but thank goodness I do not have an obedient child, because if she would have went straight to the car, I wouldn't have noticed the gas leak!! Well, I was standing there, next to our meter, waiting for her to come back and I started to smell gas, then I looked at the meter, and sure enough, there was black stuff everywhere, and then we heard a hissing sound, so I had to call the gas company, and they had to come out, shut our gas off, and we had to "evacuate the premisis." Well, apparently our meter needed to be replaced (which may explain the sudden jump in gas usuage last month, I most definitely will be calling them tomorrow to look into that!) They had to turn our gas off around noon yesterday, and we finally could come back last night around 7:30, only, they didn't turn our gas back on. Instead they tagged our door and we had to call to have them come back out to turn the gas back on and relight all of our pilot lights (water heater, furnace, stove, etc.) Well, the morons did not show up until noon today! Luckily we went to my in-laws, because our house had no heat in it for 24 hours!! And I believe the high temp outside during that time was like 35. Luckily it only got to like 49 or 50 in the house, but still, it stunk having to be out of our house overnight because they had "other emergencies and we're sorry for the inconvenience." I wanted to tell the lady at Consumers "you ever try to just pick up and go on an unplanned overnight trip at a moments notice with 2 children under the age of 3?? Now that's inconvenience!"
