Summary: Billy dies, and somehow Michael's week still gets worse.

When he looks back on it later, Michael will realize that taking down Canaille was the easiest part of his week. He didn’t think about what it would be like to smuggle Billy back out of Europe (three pat downs, four interrogations, and one nearly-broken finger later they had gotten out. In fact, Billy had been the only one of their little party not to get flagged by security). He didn’t think about what it would be like to come back to the States (none of them had made it through security there. Except for Billy. Because he’s dead). He didn’t think about spending the night in jail (again, no Billy. Michael is noticing an unfair pattern).

What’s worse though, what’s the very worst, is looking at Higgins and realzing that for once in his life, he has a real reason to be angry with the ODS. Michael thinks about all the things that could go wrong now, all the consequences that Higgins would be justified for.

Instead, Higgins says that they will never speak of this again.

He doesn’t say anything else.

Not a single word.

For once in his career, Michael doesn’t argue. He gets up and leaves and sits with his team and breathes. Sometimes its nice to just breathe.

They carpool home that night, but as Michael pulls up outside of Billy’s hotel, neither of them move.

“You’re not dead,” Michael says, grinning because how the hell else does someone look when they say that?

“Nope,” Billy smiles back. “Michael-”

“I know, believe me, I know.”

“Mate, don’t interrupt, that isn’t what I was going to say.”

“What?”

“I just wanted to tell you your tie has been backwards since we got on the plane in London.”

With that, Billy hops out of the car. Michael watches him walk up into the doorway. He watches Billy’s silhouette in the light. He watches the door close.

He fixes his tie in the mirror.

And then he drives home, because this is a week for the record books. A week like no other. The one with ghosts and zombies

(and best friends).
