Except won't Thorin have eaten it if Legolas doesn't put Orcrist through that random orc that was about to pwn him at the top of the frozen waterfall?
(In retrospect, I had to laugh a bit at that scene because given the distance and Thorin's perspective at the time, he wouldn't have seen Legolas, so it was like his sword just appeared out of nowhere and saved him. "Boomerang! You really do always come back!")
You'll have to wait and see about that, won't you? ^ _ ^
...also, look again at the title. The arrow (two, really) that Legolas shoots at Bolg in this AU? Are two less arrows that he was shooting into the orcs fighting Thorin. So given Legolas's amazing aim and the fact that he's pretty much managing a kill shot every time, that's two more orcs Thorin is going to be facing off against *at one time*.
Also, Legolas leaves the tower to fight Bolg right then (a minute or so earlier than canon) before that giant mutilated beastie shows up, so he's jumping off on the other side of the tower, crossing the frozen river right at the falls while Thorin's still facing off against orcs much further upstream, instead of using that that giant beastie to take out the tower and make a bridge out of it, so the entire set-up for THAT fight is changed. Even if Thorin's fight played out the exact same as canon- which it doesn't - Legolas isn't going to be battling Bolg in the same place. He wouldn't be in the position to making that saving throw.
