I whole heartedly agree with your number one choice. Million Dollar Baby is an amazing film! The lighting, the transitions are great. The emotions potrayed in this film were unique applying so much love in a relationship that most people think emotions aren't required in boxing.

All and all fantastic.

are you going to trust a girl whose icon is from Dawson's Creek?

Fuck off. See the movie, it is a true work of art.

Like Natalie Portman has such depth?

All right, chica, point well taken. Two things to tell you, if anything to quell your anger and justify my totall in-heartness with Natalie. One... I... I really like Dawson's Creek, too. Except for Joey. That ho. She doesn't deserve Pacey. Stupid Joey. Anyway, two. Natalie Portman is super awesome amazing fantastic, and I love her! (Please pay no attention to that one movie where she's some space princess or that other one where she has some dumb baby in some dumb walmart. DUMB!)
That's all.

How bout we stop being assholes. First of all, Natalie Portman is an Oscar-nominee (well deserved) and Dawson's Creek sucks, Christie, let's face it. A bit too Sappy McCrapperson as Dan would put it. And just so you know, frankcusamano (aka- my friend Charlotte) saw MDB with me. Anyways, very powerful film about fighting in and outside of the ring and is much more than a boxing movie. Because really, it isn't one.

Not a boxing movie?! manintheplanet February 4 2005, 07:48:58 UTC
What do you mean this isn't a boxing movie?! I've seen the previews and that's all it can be about. Maybe a sub-plot of Clint Eastwood killing a man in the ring a la "The Quiet Man", but it can't be about anything else. What else would it be about, euthanasia or something? (everything except the Quiet Man allusion was sarcasm, I'm gonna see it this weekend or the next, and I'll bring Depends).

Okay, MDB was awesome. It's #2 on my list (nothing's taking down Eternal Sunshine). My question is how is When Will I Be Loved an honorable mention? I watched it tonight and it was okay, but nothing spectacular. If you've got some points about it you want to throw at me, let me know cause I don't see what makes it so special.

OK, first of all MDB is tons better than Sunshine. Better acting, directing, and it's actualy realistic. Sure Sunshine is a great love/non-love story, but it pushed itself way too hard to be that. MDB just did everything so perfectly and easily and solemnly...God, it's just so damn good. Anyway, probably not gonna convince you on that but I'll argue anyway. OK, "When WIll I be Loved"...loved the role reversal. It's always the men screwing everything, but a modern day insane femme fatale of sorts I thought was super cool. And for what the film wanted to do, it's perfect. No extraneous details, it just gets to its point, shows it to you, and is done. It doesn't screw around trying to add anything to make it make more sense. She just screws over everyone and does it through sex. Just for what it is and what it wanted to be, it's a pretty perfect film. If you want more, read Ebert's review of it. He hits it right on the nose, as always.

I guess it's still better than Vera Drake frankcusumano February 8 2005, 23:03:00 UTC
All right, all right! I guess I'll go see it again. I guess. But if I hate it a second time, I'm not changing my mind just to make you like me. And I'll still like Mystic River, whether or not it makes me an inconsistant, hypocritical fool. Besides, if I wanted to make you like me more, I would just turn you on by putting on Meet the Feebles and taking off my shrit. And we all know I'm not gonna do that. I refuse to watch that movie.

Well, you're missing out on Peter Jackson's best film so that's your loss! And I never wanted you to change your mind because of what I think. But I still encourage you to watch Mystic River again shortly before you see MDB to see the similarities so you're not quite soooooo inconsistent or at least to see that my comments were valid. Then if you see them both and still don't like it, then good for you...loser... :)
