yeah, it's really the best wikipedia entry i've ever seen. usually they're informative if you're looking for facts, but not so interesting in how they look or how they're written. this one is both well written AND visually appealing. they should give wiki awards.

The Spaceship of Newcomers (USSR, 1985) alek_morse April 20 2009, 06:10:07 UTC
///If they were American dogs, they would have had at least three movies and two tv series by now. ///

There is, at least, one Sovie movie about a dog space mission. True, the dogs themselves are shown very litle there.

The Spaceship of Newcomers (USSR, 1985)

- based on the novel «Legend of Newcomers» by Vladimir Gubarev, in which artistically interpreted the real events about the unsuccessful launch of 4-th Soviet unmanned spacecraft, the satellite (launched in 22 December of 1960) with two dogs on board. In search of the fallen spaceship in Podkamennaya Tunguska area, Chief Rocket Designer sent the specialists expedition led by Arvid Pallo (a real person). Both a Moscow journalist Tatiana Zimenkova and local meteorologist Mangulov join to the expedition. They risk, but performed the task with dedication, providing a future flight of the first cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin.

screen caps (sorry - without dogs)

By the way,
recently I have posted about The World Cosmonautics Day, where there are couple links on highly interesting articles about Soviet Space theme - unfortunately these articles themselves are in Russian, but there is a lot of pictures/photos of the badges, calendar and post cards, architectures, cover books, toys etc. of Soviet Space theme (!!!). As a last resort, you can use the translate machine...
