Déjà Vu

It's actually ridiculously easy to get papers, but that isn't anything he hadn't expected.  This is, after all, Gotham in the '80s, before it was cleaned up, and the "underground" operations are still relatively aboveground.  The police force is more corrupt than it had gotten by the time he'd come here.  The atmosphere of the city reminds him so ( Read more... )

Oh yes, this is poignant, and touching, and leaves a lot unsaid. That bit part about letting go of his last sliver of hope of being rescued. Or his first impressions of Dent, Gordon, and Batman. Or the ruminations of how things could have been.

Would there be some sequels, like what happens when this Dick runs into his younger version? Or a younger healthier Babs?

Glad you liked it! I hadn't planned any sequels, though.

I can't believe how sad this was. That no one comes for him and eventually Dick gives up waiting. And the way he just has to relive EVERYTHING all over again and refuses to make changes even though they're things, at the time, that he would have given anything to alter. Very well-written. I am also wondering if you intend to write more of this story, or is it finished?

Glad you liked it! I personally am finished with it, although as always it's open for anybody else to play off of if they want to.

I'm confused... did I miss a part 1? How'd he get to where he is and revived? Is he dead or oh my I'm confused. But this part was precious:

If Jason hadn't died Tim would have just kept being the Batclan's personal stalker and wouldn't be the highly efficient Robin he is now.

*hugs her little Batclan stalker*

Pleeease write a sequal and let Batman take an interest in Dick some how, *feeling* like he should know him. I think if Dick can get back into the vigilante business... somehow, he'll feel more at peace.

Revived? For some reason or other he was flung back in time.

Batman taking an interest in Dick is exactly what he's trying to avoid, because of the whole paradoxes issue. Dick definitely would be happier if he could go back to his real work, but he knows he can't do it until after he gets flung back in time (time travel totally kills specificity and grammar).

*grins* I understand the desire to see more of this (oh yes I do) but I also understand that it feels finished somehow as well. Some stories are just like that. This has a beautiful, bleak finality to it and a blank circularity that's really solid and hits home.

Thanks! I think the issue is that I don't really write sequels; I write one-shots, and companion pieces, and epics which just take place in the same world and aren't tightly connected plotwise. Because I can see two things it would be possible to write in this universe: something with Barbara and when time finally gets back to when he left. But I can't write them.

*nods* I find it very difficult to continue a story I saw as a one-shot, even if I can "see" where it might go. Of course, sometimes it's worth it to try, and I've written some stories I enjoyed a lot on prompting from other people, continuing stories. Knowing when it'll work and when a story is done for you is a tough one sometimes. :)

(all that said, the moment when he finally gets back to where he left would be amazing to see! *grin*)
