The boychild and I went down to St. Simons for the long holiday weekend and had a blast. We got up early-ish on Saturday to get there by lunchtime. We were out and about yesterday, looking at the fall colors (through the rain, but still pretty) and then went to a Halloween party at a friend's place. Since rain interfered with the original plan of walking the path through Tallulah Falls gorge, we went through the odd roadside places that caught our attention instead. It's been quite peculiar without the boychild in the house. On the one hand, it's considerably quieter and there's been no opportunity for him and the girlchild to squabble with one another, but there's also some things I'd meant to do, like show him the Easter egg on The Two Towers DVD, and trying to recalibrate portions for meals ( Read more... )

The boychild is with his mother, and it's really weird having him not be around.

Somewhere around this date three years ago my husband and I were arranging our first date. That's still a week or so away.

We had a very food-oriented day today. I started out by visiting the farmer's market, where I was foiled in my quest for some homemade peach jam. I got a bunch of very nice veggies, though, and stopped by Harry's on my way to the Valvoline, so my father-in-law did get some peach jam after all even if it was commercially made. I used the Singapore Spice mix (sweet curry) for the first time today, on some chicken. After taking the chicken off to rest, I sauteed some pineapple in the juice and then threw in some rice. We also had some sauteed squash and zucchini; not very asian, but that's what I had. It was yummy.
