Post-Christmas Survival Entry

*checks pulse*

It appears that I'm alive. I don't know how I got through Christmas, with all the last-minute shopping I had to do and all the last-possible-minute plans we made. But it worked out well and I had a wonderful Christmas.

Thursday, just before Christmas, I was on the phone with my good friend Jaymi and I asked her what her plans were for Christmas day (i.e dinner, etc ...) and the conversation that followed might have been the funniest conversation ever. And it wasn't even supposed to be funny.

Me: So what are your plans for Christmas day?
Jaymi: I thought I -- was it you who invited me to your house for dinner?
Me: Um ... well technically we made plans for New Year's Day.
Jaymi: Oh really? I could have sworn it was for Christmas day.
Me: *laughing hysterically* Well that's kinda why I was asking -- to see if you had plans or not and if you didn't, I was going to invite you over.
Jaymi: Really?
Me: Well yeah ... I mean, do you have plans?
Jaymi: Well technically, I thought the entire time that I was eating over at your place ... so yeah ... I do.

And at that point we were laughing too hard to even talk. It was just so weird because anyone would have thought that she was just inviting herself over, but she sincerely believed that she had already been invited. So she and her daughter Raven came over for dinner and a lovely gift exchange and Raven is a newly-obsessed Harry Potter fan (she's 5 years old and let me tell you, even if you hated children, you would love Raven because that's just how awesome and adorable she is). So I bought Raven the first HP movie ("Santa" bought her the other two) and I bought her a HP fleece pillow which she wouldn't let out of her sight because she thought someone would steal it. It was so funny.

And my favorite Raven quote stemmed from a conversation we had at dinner-time when she noticed my necklace for the first time. It's a silver chain with a silver key pendant, and this necklace is a definite conversation-starter. I've had many many people ask me what the key is for and instead of telling them what I think it's for, I tell them to guess -- because it's interesting to see what they think. Some of the responses I've received are: it's the key to my heart (which is the one I always use), the key to my chastity belt *grin*, the key to "all the answers", the key to Michael's submarine (the boy from work who I'm still carrying a torch for) and Jaymi recently added to the list by saying that it's a key to a box.

Here's what Raven had to say:

Raven: What's that key for?
Me: Hmm, well why don't you take a guess?
Raven: *ponders* It's ... a key to a secret door.
Me: *who is actually impressed* Really? What's behind that secret door?
Raven: Gold ... lots of gold!
Me: Oh wow ... that's awesome!
Raven: Yep ... and dragons.
Me: Uh oh. Well then it's a good thing I'm a professional dragon-slayer.
Raven: But they're friendly dragons!

And of course we're all laughing at this point and wishing that Raven was our kid.

It was a wicked busy day, and it didn't end there. I visited my boss and his family, exchanged gifts there and hung out for a while. Jenny is, oddly, my "gossip" friend. She can sit for hours and hours talking about everyone else's life, which is weird, but it works for us. We like to keep each other up-to-date with the comings and goings of Kingston-life and now that she lives in Toronto, our visits are longer and we can barely pause for breath because we talk SO much.

By boxing day, all I wanted to do was sit and do nothing. I didn't have to clean anything because I had done it on Christmas day, so all I did was sit around reading, watching movies and tv (the Doctor Who Christmas special, for instance) and I didn't even shower. I felt so gross, but it just felt so good to do NOTHING. I couldn't even bring myself to go Boxing day shopping. That's how lazy I was that day. But it was good.

And for Christmas Santa picked me up a new computer desk and computer chair (actually given to me by my awesome brother), "A Little Princess" dvd by my sister, the Chronicles of Narnia, the board game "Scene It?" which is actually a lot of fun, the 6th installment of the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon, pj bottoms, new bedsheets and duvet cover (which is loved by my cats more than me, which is saying something), some crafty things, candle things, and a new stereo system along with two cds (Thriller and the best of David Bowie, which made me laugh so hard but I was so happy!)

And so that was my Christmas. I had such a great, happy one and I'm glad that I got to share it with my friends, too ... which is (for me) what that day is all about as cheesy as that sounds.

Is it sick that I just keep listening to the same song over and over again? Like I could listen to "Wires" by Athlete a hundred times in a row and never get sick of it. I always have a song-of-the-week and I guess this one is it for this week. I love it. I know next week I'll probably feel differently about it because I'll probably be so sick of it by then. Oh well.

I think I'll watch Indiana Jones tonight.

I hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas! See you later. :)
