i'd say either rufous or belevader (both of which i've probably misspelled). in my defense of the sheer swellness of thse names, ask keegan about all my good naming schemes for rifts and d&d through the years. i'm sure he'll agree that i am one pro-namer! ;)
I actually thought of it while watching firefly one time! =) Because that's one of the reasons why Whedon chose Mal as his shortened name - because it means bad.
You could also name the puppy Criton... But then you should get another one and name it Aeryn. hehehe.
It really depends on the personality of the dog, but randomly opening the Oxford Dictionary of Saints is always a good way to name any animal. That's how we named Maximus the Confessor. =P
