The Originals 3.21, "Give 'Em Hell Kid"

THAT WAS SO GOOD. I totally bought into Marcel's "death." When Elijah ripped his heart out, I was completely convinced that Marcel was dead, gone, never to be seen again.

(In fact, I was kind of hoping that Davina would somehow return from the dead and SHE would become the beast that destroyed them all. I would have preferred that, actually. I like Marcel okay, but I like Davina a lot better.)

Boy, was I fooled. I completely bought into the "I haven't taken the immorality serum yet" story that Marcel peddled to Josh, and Klaus, and Elijah. And now he will RISE AGAIN and put Klaus in storage for at least three years (according to the TVD timeline) and I'm excited for next week - especially because Rebekah is in the previews! YAY.

I miss Cami, though. Sigh.

Gotta say, Daniel Gillies completely sold me on that moment. Elijah was shaking as he stood there with Marcel's bloody heart in his hand. The two characters developed a sort of tentative friendship this season, and it's clear that Elijah regrets what he did - both for his own sake, and for how Klaus will mourn Marcel. But Elijah's fear of his own family's destruction clearly outweighed any feelings he might have had for Marcel. It completely proves Marcel's point: when push comes to shove, the Michaelsons are the only ones who really matter to each other.

That's actually one of the things I find the most interesting about them. The difference between what they do for family, and what the rest of us do, is the level of power and destruction that the Mikaelsons wreak when it comes to protecting their own. Their instinct - that tribal, familial bond that leads to heirarchies of value - is one of the most human things about them.
