I totally loved the scene with Eames's dad and didn't hate the scene with the therapist. Otherwise, another vanilla pudding of an episode. Where was the sly criticism of women having to "apply" to be considered a suitable mate? Where was the explanation of mergers and acquisitions or insider trading, so the viewer can feel smarter by the end of the episode? Instead we get too much attention given to fucking Proust and OMG, WHY IS THE CAPTAIN SO DAMN STUPID?
Most of the shrink scenes have been okay. I do like Julia Ormand (have you ever seen semila,s sense of snow?) but the thing that bothers me are the flash backs. I get they're filling in new people who haven't seen them, but I say they must need to figure that shit out themselves. VDOs a good enough actor where they should not have to rely on flashbacks. It's laziness. Or maybe I'm just all annoyed from the sweatiness.
Oh, and with the Proust thing - I kept waiting for Steve Carrells character from little miss sunshine come out of the woodwork somewhere on that topic.
I think this is the best ep so far, possibly in years. Like you said, there's something to be said for non-flashy plotlines and characters. It seems like they finally brought back that basic human quality to the intent.
(oh and I thought I was taking crazy pills on hating Boots on the Ground.)
No, boots on the ground is by far my least favorite so far and what's even sadder is that it was written by someone who wrote in the first and second seasons. Fail!
Oh, LJ mobile sucks! The iPad app works well for posting entries, but still doesn't work when you try to comment. Luckily it's slot easier to read the actual site on the iPad than on my phone.
But yes, you are so right -- it's the whydunit that is so, so lacking and was such an intrical part of the concept of the series. It's what set the show apart from other series and I miss it. But it is a challenge to make an interesting crime drama when e audience already knows the whodunit.
I guess I must be the only who really likes this season a lot. Maybe I'm just happy because Walon Green's tenure sucked so much this looks great.
I think the Captain is ok. But it doesn't help that every time I look at him I see the hit man from Dead. lol And I miss Ross so much! I LOVE Eric Bogosian and thought he was the best Captain - confrontations with Goren and all!
Here's hoping the series finale is a good one. :-)
Well I think anything will be better will be better than loyalty and salon green...I mean was he even awake when he ran e show?
I think this season is infinitely better than the last two, but probably no better than seven which I wasn't a huge fan of. I think it's great we'll get to see a hopefully better end for Goren and Eames. I just think it's defiantly time to let the ol' girl out to pasture.
