A little from column A, a little from column B

So, any fellow godless heathens going to the Reason Rally in DC on March 24? We were thinking about it.

Also, have any of you fanfolks ever stayed in Portmeirion in Wales (either the hotel, the castle, or one of the cottages from The Prisoner)?  Apparently getting to stay in "The Village" is more exciting than the long weekend in Paris we were ( Read more... )

A friend of mine from my Renfaire days stayed there. (He reminds me of an American version of Martin Freeman's Watson). Anyway, he had a great time, because he was as geeky as most of us are, and he'd been fascinated by The Prisoner back in the day. I'm afraid I don't have any details about what it was like there, except that he enjoyed himself.

Cool! I suspect the various costs of such a trip might add up to waaaaaaay more than a package deal long weekend to Paris, so we might not be able to go this year, but it looks pretty nifty.

My mum's been to Portmeiron - she said it was totally amazing. Really weird.

Awesome! It certainly *looks* like it would be both amazing and weird.

Cannot wait to watch the Rangers/Blackhawks game tonight.

Also known as the game won off Patrick Kane's foot, and then I laughed and laughed and laughed.

That was SO VERY ridiculous!

Sadly for us, we're Rangers fans, and it looked like they sort of lost that game ALL ON THEIR OWN. But of course at this point I know more personal details about the Blackhawks than my own team (thanks, fandom!) and I'm totally charmed by them, and if we HAVE to lose, well. It couldn't have happened to a nicer foot. *g*

Ahhhh, you see I was watching with one Rangers fan and the rest of us were there primarily due to being incepted into hockey RPF, so the Blackhawks win was celebrated by 3/4 of the table. Also to me Patrick Kane is charming largely due his complete failure as a human being, so it seemed appropriate that he scored the game winning goal off his *foot*. Oh Kaner.

Also you're NYC area, no? Next time we do a game wanna come with? :D

Yes, and yes! I'd love to!

And I have to admit, I get an extra thrill when the opposing team contains players I've read about. Which means I now look particularly forward to Blackhawks and Hurricanes games, f'rinstance. *g*

Corn pudding note: I like to add a dash of cayenne, which gives it a lovely all-over heat without being omg spicy!

And I am jealous of your Wales trip! I was there a decade ago, and it's simply LOVELY. (Also, the food is great if you stick to locally sourced meat/veg/stuff that is in season - I have never understood the "bad English food" trope...)

Oooh, cayenne sounds like just the thing!

And right now the trip isn't even in the serious planning stages, but I really do hope we get to go. I've been to England many times, but never really to Wales. I used to be fascinated with it though -- my favorite T-shirt was bright green with the red Welsh dragon on the front (not totally unlike this) and I had a coffee mug featuring a sheep very seriously informing you that "If Wales were flattened out, it would be bigger than England."
