Twice might be too few to establish a pattern, but then again, twice in a month is a lot. Very interesting.
So this time, it was a proper event. Some kind of camp site, everyone in game, no wacky stormtroopers (sorry Duncan). The game seemed to be based on the concept that at one point in time, everyone was on the same side, and then something happened that split them into two factions. The factions weren't fighting with each other... yet. That was the way that things were trending, and it wasn't a real good idea to go from one camp into the other unless you had a darn good reason.
So of course, who ended up in the wrong camp? Spade, Kalinda, and Nikita. Even when I'm awake that sounds completely probable. :)
I think I'd gone in there to talk to someone that I thought was still going to be reasonable to not take issue with my presence, and I was wrong. I remember feeling fairly righteously indignant at being "captured" as a result. We were all tied along a fence that ran through their camp, but not in a really binding kind of way. It was a polite capture. We each had one wrist tied to the fence with a leather cord and the understanding that if we wanted to play nice, it would stay that way. If we were to break that cord and try to walk out, though, polite would probably be over. I took the opportunity to go through all of my tags - I don't play often, and even in my dream it was an issue that my tags might be expired.
Side note - this is MY dream, so apparently you had to have all your various outfits tagged too, and with each tag there was a 6" version of the outfit on the ring so it was clear which tag went with which outfit. In reality, I can't imagine taking that much time to sew a tiny little doll outfit for every one I make myself, but they were really fun to flip through on the tag ring.
So a couple hours pass, chatting with my co-captives and playing with tag rings and all that, and suddenly Rei has managed to sneak up next to me. He's got his smug face on. In these situations, Rei could take one of two paths: he could go all RAWR and try to beat the stuffing out of the idiots who have dared to treat his mate so terribly, or he could be the diplomat who is going to try to follow the rules and fix the issue through the proper channels. Historically, he always does whichever one Nikita really wishes he'd NOT do at a given time. So this time, since she's all indignant at her treatment, does he come in sword blazing? No. Just walked right in, calm as ever, figuring he'd go negotiate with the upper management and see if he couldn't get this whole thing resolved anyway, it was about time to do that. This clearly ticks Nikita off, because he's supposed to be DEFENDING her, does he not SEE what they've done, she's TIED to a FENCE. This little snit fit just amuses him more, and a perfectly typical Rei/Nikita exchange follows, during which she tries really hard to maintain her pissed kitty attitude, and he manages to get her to smile and then continues to be smug.
So Rei goes off to do his talking thing. Meanwhile, Spade has apparently done something stupid, and he comes over and asks for a silvered dagger so he can start a duel or his fight to get out or something. Something not good. (Aside: no clue why it needed to be silvered, they all looked human to me.) Good thing I'd just gone through all my tags and knew that I had one in there that was still good. Even had a phys rep... which was not in any way LARP safe. It was basically a really big version of a butter knife. Yeah, well, it was a dream.
And that's about where it ended. I woke up, it was 6:43 am, kid is still sleeping, and I'm totally awake. Now it's my turn to be indignant. :)
