I had another movie dream last night. You know, if my brain is going to pretend to be a cinema, the least it could do is show the whole movie!
Our setting this time is a college campus, something decently respectable. The main characters are a brainy girl (in my mind, played by Amy Acker) and a party guy (equal parts Jason Segel and Seth Rogen). Somehow they meet, and begin kinda-dating... you know, the kind where she thinks it's amazing and wonderful, and he's enjoying the time he spends with her, but also trying to hide it from everyone who will judge him for not dating a typical hot chick. It's a Sandy and Danny kind of deal.
Until one night, when he's supposed to be with her, but he bails to do something more fun. Go to a party or out with one of those vapid hot chicks or something. She doesn't really realize she's been stood up, and while waiting for him, something bad happens. In my head it was a crazy-bad asthema attack and she couldn't get to her inhaler, and it was severe enough that she stopped breathing all together. I have no clue if that is medically reasonable or not, but it's my head, and it made for good drama. Anyway. He's having a crappy time at the party or with the hot chick and he feels guilty for ditching her and comes back to her place early, and finds her in time to revive her. Bummer for her, she was without oxygen to the brain for a minute or two, and her brainy-ness is damaged. (Again, no clue if that's how it really works. I skipped Med school.)
She is, of course, initially bummed that she's not a super genius any more. But now he's having more luck convincing her to be a party girl, and she gets into it. Cue happy couple party montage (complete with her removing pony tail and glasses to reveal... hot chick! Amazing!). He's willing to go out with her "for real" now, she's enjoying being a popular person, and academic aspirations are a thing of the past. After a certain amount of debauchery he starts to feel guilt. This injury happened when he should have been there, she still doesn't realize that he was pseudo-cheating on her, and she's not exactly stupid now, she could be trying harder and still achieve what she was supposed to in the first place. So he tries to convince her that she should get back on the book bandwagon. He starts taking her to the things that he didn't want to do before, and now she's the one suggesting that this boring opera sure would be more fun if they found an empty box to have sex in instead of actually paying attention.
So... here's my issue. That's where the movie ended. I couldn't come up with an ending, and it actually woke me up as I was trying to figure it out.
Is it a romantic comedy, and they find a way to both be happy and together? Is it a drama, and she finds out that he could have kept this from happening, hates him forever, but is driven to reclaim her academic glory simply to spite him? I NEED TO KNOW.
If you know how my movie ends, please tell me in the comments. It's been bugging me all day.
