I think the most interesting thing about Inception to me is the world that's built up, and I want so much fic just exploring the different ways the technology can be used and how it actually affects the people who use it frequently. May I ask what your problems are with Arthur/Eames, though? Just out of curiosity.
I think the name thing is frustrating, but we do call a lot of the men by their first name? Like, Arthur and Dom - who, admittedly, we do have two names for because his manpain is the focus - Yusuf and Miles, plus we don't actually know if Eames is his first or last name. And then Saito is a different matter entirely, because to my understanding it would be rude to refer to him by his first name considering that they're in a business setting. Also, we refer to Fischer primarily by his last name because he's the mark, and because that's how Saito refers to him, because he's a business rival, but we do know his first name.
I don't like it because I see no basis for it and what I did see was stupid pulling pigtails bullshit, which is frankly my least favorite dynamic, and also because of course that's the ship that inception fandom writes lol two young white men. I also find it very strange that all the fic I've clicked on plays very close to seme/uke stuff, with Arthur being portrayed as the more effeminate one. A) because stereotypical and B) because in the movie, Eames is portrayed more queerly, not stereotypically so, but definitely less of a man's man than you would expect from a guy as buff as Tom Hardy in a major movie. I loved that he was portrayed as more fluid and queer in his approach to things, but it didn't really make me want to slash him with Arthur. Also because if I'm going to read a fic about two people and imagine them making out, I would much rather imagine JGL and Ellen Page making out, but if Tom Hardy is an addition rather than a substitution, I'm okay with it. I'd also read fic with TH making out with Ken Watanabe in my head,
