Gonna see if I can check out the U of W while I'm there... that's the only one that I know of in Seattle that would be a good institution for me to look into.
Glad to see that you got a good look at the Portland area. It's so beautiful, it's hard to turn down.
The good news about Seattle OR Portland is that it's almost a package deal for events and socializing since they are so close. Planes, trains and automobiles are all fairly inexpensive ways to commute between the two.
I was in Seattle last weekend, and I'll be back the weekend before Rainfurrest, but not FOR the con. Wish I could have met up with you! *hugs* Good luck in your search.
That's a shame! I wish you could make it to the con... It sounds like it's going to be a blast!
I'm particularly interested to check out Seattle, mostly because there are a lot of job opportunities for me in that city, so I'm hoping I like it. I definitely prefer the politics of Oregon to Washington, however, so I'm still hoping something worthwhile turns up in Portland!
Yeah, we definitely prefer the politics of Oregon. That's my preference for sure. Unfortunately, my situation requires a slow migration over there one at a time for job hunting which also requires cheap housing. That's what is leading us toward Seattle. Cheap housing isn't exactly prevalent on the Portland area.
One issue with Seattle is that it's hard to see the "real side" from the tourist areas. We can just drive for days around the outer rim of the metro area and have a blast, but most people won't see it. I like that I can get an urban home and lifestyle and all the fun of the city within 20 minutes.
Lol, Portland housing prices aren't as bas as they are here in Missoula, Montana of all places... Personally, I was shocked that housing was so 'cheap' there :P
Good to know that the COL in Seattle isn't that bad though...
I have an aunt who lives in a burb of Portland, and I liked it.
I'm not sure how humid SLC gets in the summer, so I figs I should otta warn you that it can get quite humid and hot...none of this dry heat crap we have in Montana.
