dead 60's

ok...here's the first half of the garbage happy. i'll get to the actual part about garbage later as i want to take a nap while my roommate is gone to class.

left campus at 645 and got to the 930 club at 705. doors opened at 730, so naturally, the line was down the block and around the corner. this worried me as i did not want to be stuck in the back unable to see anything...although i know someone always ends up stuck in the back, i've just never been that person (at i show i was actually excited about)

my sister called while we were in line, and we had a strange conversation. also, apparently i annoy people (who knew?), i.e. the guys behind us in line who were making strange faces at each other every time i said something to andrew.

anyhoo, when we got inside, it turned out that most of the people in front of us went up to the balcony level. there were only about a hundred people around the stage, so we were about 16 or 17 feet back (including the blocked area in front of the stage). go us! i was like "omg, i'll be able to see shirley's eyebrows!!" because yes, i am that much of a dork...

we talked a lot about nothing while we waited an hour and fifteen minutes for the opening act.

i wasn't expecting much, since i'd never heard of them, but the dead 60's were freaking awesome. i cannot wait to buy their album at the end of may. on amazon, they're labeled "ska funk from northern ireland", which, i guess, is as close as we can get to classifying their music. it just...kept changing...it would go from punk to ska to reggae to funk to rock and on and on...

the bassist looked like he couldn't have been more than 14 years old, but he was drinking a beer so i'm guessing he was a little older. he also danced like he belonged in franz ferdinand or something. he looked all serious about it, but really wasn't doing anything impressive...which made it more impressive. the rest of the band also looked like they were just barely out of high school. the drummer was pretty cool, and he definitely looked happy to be doing his job. i hate it when drummers look bored.

i would say that if it weren't for the fact that he was playing so well, the guitarist/keyboardist was probably stoned out of his mind. he just had that look on his face...and when he played the keyboard, he sat on a little stool that put him at just the right height so that his hands had to be at shoulder level for him to play...and he looked like schroedinger (if that's indeed the pianist from the peanuts) on drugs. he was honestly playing like he didn't know where he was or what he was doing.

the lead singer had a *lot* of personality. he played the effects guitar, and he would get really close to the audience and make really weird faces like "oo! look! an audience! how novel...i wonder if i should make my guitar make funny noises..." he actually played the cowbell in one song, too. instead of singing...he played the freaking cowbell with a drumstick. when he started to do it, he looked like he was trying really hard not to laugh, and i realized he must now about the christopher walken/will ferrell SNL skit with the cowbell. but when he was done with the cowbell, he threw it on the floor and started playing his guitar with the drumstick...it was impressive. he and the bassist both looked really really familiar to me...

yeah...so they were a great opening act, and i hope they knew it. the audience wasn't really warmed up, so they didn't quite rock out like they should have. they're going to be on the warped tour this summer (i'll explain later how i found that out XD), and i'm definitely going to see if they'll be playing when it comes through houston. they're worth seeing again, most definitely.

ok, so i'll get to the part about garbage later. i'm going to sleep now...and then i'm off to work and then dinner and then the play and then the party...........so maybe i won't get to tell you about it later...maybe tomorrow? grr.....i'll figure it out

happy, crazy rant, fangirl
