Loyaulte me lie

I have been getting quite ridiculously emotional over this.

The Channel 4 documentary last night was fascinating - so much science! DNA! Facial reconstruction! And I got to be a history geek and explain lots of stuff to my (sceptical) flatmate. Although I could have done without the programme making all the random internet Ricardians look like ( Read more... )

it is so lovely to see something so historic and the enjoyment of people who have loved him for so very long (you and shocolate) flailing in tandem. very special.

I also met rosina_alcona through Richard III, too. And by extension, you. ♥

We know where he is.

This is such a strange feeling.

♥ I am still emotional over those photos you posted a few months ago. And he really was there, all that time.

This is just beyond exciting. I just spent at least a quarter of an hour looking at the reconstructed head. . .

That head was the most amazing part for me. And when you compare it to the painting that the Tudors may have doctored...similar and yet not.

\o/ Science for the win!

This totally exposes how much of a science/biology geek I am, but I'd kill to see copies of the DNA evidence. Even though I work on plants, the basic science behind all of this is the same, so I've probably done the same (or at least very similar) experiments that they used in my own research. The interconnectedness of it all appeals to me. :)

The history part of it is cool, too--it completely blows my mind and humbles me to think of stuff happening that far back in time and to think of the people who were alive then, and walking where we walked, so to speak--but the DNA and forensics stuff is what really interests me.

Well, apparently, it's all about the mitochondria, so we're not even talking regular old DNA here. Very cool indeed.

Yeah, and that makes it all even cooler for me, because one of the projects I've been working on lately involves extracting mitochondria--and mito DNA--from my plants. Again...the interconnectedness of it all just makes me happy. :)

Like I said, this whole thing exposes the science geek in me (as if it wasn't already obvious).

I don't understand DNA at all, but the fact that even that part was confirmed - that it's not just circumstantial evidence - just dumbfounds me.

And to think of him lying there all that time...yeah, "blows my mind" is the right description.
