Kimiko/Shrouded Dancer and the 2010 Libre crackdown

Apr 03, 2012 15:21

I made some accusations about Kimiko/Shrouded Dancer and her role in the 2010 Libre crackdown on scanlation groups in Nakama's website and Megori's DMG discussion threadI know it looks like I am launching some kind of personal vendetta against Kimiko by bringing up the past. Megori even states in her LJ that the past is irrelevant. To her, perhaps ( Read more... )

You can totally unscreen my name there ahahah, I even unlocked my twitter ages ago because I couldn't be bothered anymore. I RECOGNISE MY WRITING STYLE WHEN I SEE IT. Oh that bruhaha back then. (Curiously, her tweets are ~gone ( ... )

Yeah, the last few tweets are somewhat creepy. On the one hand, she insists she was helping L&V, but later she turns around and basically says that the affected scanlation groups had it coming. The lack of remorse over her role is most curious ( ... )

Wishing you good luck.

(And hope you don't have to waste too much time on Kimiko.)

I don’t think it looks like personal vendetta and even if it is, what would you call what she’s doing?
This also is not bulling. What she did however is.
You merely brought to attention some things that were unnoticed, unknown to many and finally concealed in a way - cui bono?

I can’t agree this is irrelevant; au contraire, it’s very much relevant to what happened recently to DP, mediafire files…
Same thing? Yes.
Question is - will we let it repeat third time?

I have a bad feeling it will repeat. There's a saying: Bad things happens in threes.

But at least we can prepare ourselves in future. I guess all scanlation groups need to be very attentive in future to C&Ds. It is getting very difficult to keep track of licensed titles nowadays though :(

I don’t think that sending “polite”!! letter and informing title is licensed is problem itself. Scanlators usually remove links themselves, in most cases nobody have to tell them.
However DMG have to make some “proper” space for this in their forum and properly, on time add new titles to the list.
You are not obliged to fallow anybody’s twitter.

It was messy past few weeks but seems to me scanlators/fans loose one opportunity to push things further and make some mutual “understanding” with publisher(s). What they (DMG) did was illegal *amused* and since they, as company have to fallow/obey law this was opportunity to have upper hand in whole thing.
Not to mention penalties for Shroud’s inappropriate eagerness…
Boycotting her work instead of whole DMG… but then since they stood behind her, they should be punished too ( ... )

Yeah, it is a pain trying to follow all the DMG member twitter accounts. Many of them use twitter like chat, so you feel like you're eavesdropping on private conversations Even DMG staff use twitter as a form of chat. Kozato, who's supposed to be the head PR person has made some critical comments of the emails sent in by fans. I screencapped the relevant tweets for Megori's thread, but I might as well put it here as well:

These few weeks feel like 2010 all over again, seriously frustrating (>_<)

It does. If anything, it's worse because it seems ANYONE can issue a DMCA notice and have a group's entire archive removed - and there is little recourse available.
