I knew it would be next to impossible to love this new version of Persuasion as much as I love the 1995 version with Ciaran Hinds and Amanda Root, but damn this blows! They did a big writeup of this in the newspaper today. I kinda figured the 1995 one (which I love so much I could watch it weekly without getting tired of it) would be hard to top, and that it'd be an exercise in frustration to even give it a glance, tempted as I was. Yeah, the idea of other versions appeals to me, even when I have one that I love. This one just didn't make any sense and they dumped a bunch of what made the 95 version awesome. Ann goes running through the streets of Bath without a hat or a coat on, for heaven's sake!

I was thinking of watching this, but now I will not! Thank you. I like the 1995 version as well.

I hate to think that I'm putting people off anything Austen-related, but I just could not stomach the alterations from the novel and from the time period in general. It's like, we have proof that you can make this movie both good and accurate; stop fucking around with it!
