More Computer Woes

Yesterday, I couldn't get my printer to work. I tried all the usual things--plugging and unplugging cords and wires, shutting things down then booting them back up, even reinstalling the printer. Nothing worked--UNTIL I plugged the printer cable into my other USB port. (My MacBook has two.)

So then I realized my USB port was going bad. I shut down

Nancy, I came exploring to see if you had posted anything about your work habits and saw this post about the work you had lost. That's so awful!
I'm afraid I know nothing about Mac and don't have ideas to help, but have you considered using Carbonite, or one of the other backup "thingies" in the future? (You can see how technically savvy I am). Anyway, I've been meaning to do it for several years. I understand they do have something specifically for Mac.
