It was an interesting experience, certainly. The second quake at 10:30, I didn't feel, but I heard the windows rattle.

People felt it all the way down here in Tennessee. A few of my friends in class today mentioned waking up. I was disappointed to have not noticed.

Maybe you have super earthquake recognition powers?

*snort* You didn't know? The Midwest is sitting right on top of a major slip fault. We're supposedly gearing up for 'the big one' like happened in 1876? 1896? Uh. Hmm searching reveals the New Madrid earthquake happened in 1812... and it's estimated to have been around an 8 on the richter scale based on teh damage and how widespread it was. It's one of the biggest ever recorded in the continental US. Most people think California gets that honor, but nope! That one literally changed the course of The Mississipi and it did not change back either ( ... )

oh i knew. I lived on Lake Erie, we had several. the first time I thought it was a gas main exploding. It didn't so much as shake as there was this loud cracking noise
