Week 68 answers

Apparently I pick a lot of music no one else knows, but you all made a valiant effort!

Answers--and thoughts on the songs, because I love them and just had to, lol:

1. Savage Garden - Crash and Burn: I ran across this song on a Jack/Sue music video for Sue Thomas F.B.Eye. I have since decided it works much better as a Myles/Tara song, though I am not a vidder and will never make such a video. And I just plain love the words. :)

2. Westlife - Seasons in the Sun (original artist: Terry Jacks): This song is sad and lovely and designed to elicit nostalgia.

3. Sissel - Angel Rays (from the movie Evelyn, the composer and singer in the movie was Gemma Hayes): I love the movie, and this song is so pretty and has some nice words.

4. Gregory and the Hawk - Boats & Birds: This is a lovely indie pop (I think?) song that I thought went around awhile back, but was probably more appealing to me than some of you. I hope you give it a try if you hadn't before, and see what you think. Its simplicity is deceptively unsophisticated, but it's very sweet.

5. Everybody Uh-Oh - Death: This is the ONE song I put in that I was fairly sure NO ONE would get. But I had to see anyway. As for what the band's like, here's a line from their album debut: "The debut by Champaign-Urbana's peculiarly named Everybody Uh-Oh mixes the trippy sensibilities of the neo-psychedelicists in the Elephant 6 stable with a big dollop of both slowcore coolness and Yo La Tengo/My Bloody Valentine-style sounds for sound's sake." I have tried to transcribe all the lyrics but found it an impossible task due to the murky nature of the music, and it's hard to find much more online than a mention of the track in their one album's track listing.

6. Amethystium - Autumn Interlude: This is one of the most gorgeous songs ever--so shimmery and rippling with color and light, you can just hear it. And the words are lovely too.

7. Bruno Coulais - To Be By Your Side (from the movie Winged Migration, singer: Nick Cave): This song is actually about birds migrating (imagine that, given the movie title, lol), but it's really beautiful.

8. Mary Chapin Carpenter - 10,000 Miles: I first discovered this song in the movie Fly Away Home, and it's so sad yet beautiful. I adore it (and play it on the piano sometimes--my voice is just low enough to sing it comfortably :D).

9. Anne Wylie Band - Silver Apples of the Moon: This one's a famous poem by W.B. Yeats set to music, so if you knew the poem that would help you with the song title. :)

10. The Carpenters - Happy: I probably should've picked a better-known song by them, but Karen's voice is very distinct to me. I love this song for the sheer fun of it all.

11. Caedmon - Aslan: This is from an obscure '80s Christian folk rock band and is obviously about Narnia. ;)

12. Lesiem - Fides (singer: Maggie Reilly): This song is incredibly sweet lyric-wise and is just lovely. Half of the song is this pop-type stuff but the other half is electronic/choral blend, which I love. :D (I first discovered this artist through a L&C music video.)

13. Gregorian - The Gift (singer: Amelia Brightman aka Violet): Most of their songs are covers of other artists' songs, but this is an original composition, with surprisingly poignant lyrics when looked at as a whole.

14. Imogen Heap - I Can't Take It In (from the first of the new Narnia movies): This song is really lovely and inspires the same sort of feeling described in the lyrics.

15. Capercaillie - I Will Set My Ship In Order: This is a lovely Scottish folk song that is incredibly soothing to listen to.

16. Mysteria - Star Gazer: I first discovered this particular song in a L&C music video. Try as I might, I have been unable to find lyrics online for this at all. My original post of the game is the only thing that pops up on Google whatsoever for one of the lines.

17. Manau - La Tribu de Dana: This is indeed French rap--to be exact, I would consider it Celtic French folk rap, as the lyrics are essentially an epic poem about a battle held long ago! un_sedentary is to be credited for assistance with the translation to English--several years ago. *g*

18. Capercaillie - The Price of Fire: This is such a lovely song. To be honest, the melody reminds me a little of the Mandy Moore song from A Walk to Remember, but it's prettier, I think. *ducks flying missles from angelkerensa's corner*

19. Nickel Creek - Reasons Why: This group is amazing, and I always love listening to Sara Watkins' voice. The words are good and the music is simple and very enjoyable.

20. The Corrs - My Lagan Love: The artist was pretty easy to guess for some of you, but the song was a little more difficult; I imagine that's because it's on the Home album, which is more folk music than the typical pop.

21. Loreena McKennitt - Stolen Child: This one is a famous poem by W.B. Yeats, which helped at least one person figure out the title. ;)

22. Newboys - Stay Strong: I love the lyrics and sound of this one, very catchy and enjoyable to listen to.

23. Libera - Salva Me: This is a boys' choir, though the solo features one boy in particular (I don't even know the name, so I couldn't imagine you guys being able to name the specific kid, lol, especially since they change as they get too old to sing in the choir). Gorgeous stuff.

24. Caramell - Caramelldansen: This was the subject of a viral video a few years back, and is pure infectious pop. :D

25. Iona - Wave After Wave: This group is a really interesting mix of genres when you listen to some of their different songs. This one is pure loveliness. :D

#1 & #2 tied for most frequently guessed (which didn't surprise me).

Final comment: If any of the clips intrigued you and you'd like to hear the whole song or whatnot, I'll be happy to hook you up; just PM me your e-mail addy.

And now for the scores:

angelkerensa - 13
judosas - 6
un_sedentary - 5
schnuffichen, hhertzof, & ksarasara - 2

Apologies to everyone who felt my choices were too hard--I'll try to make it easier if I have a next time. (Actually, I have a really cool and different theme I'll try if I do another game.) I warned angelkerensa to go easy on you and pick less of the folk-type of music I listen to. *g* So keep an eye out for hers in the next day or two!

Edit: angelkerensa decided to default, and since judosas already told me she didn't have time to create a game, it goes to un_sedentary.
