The sun was slowly hiding itself into the grayish-dark clouds. Red and orange clashed fiercely in the sky filled with purple tinge. Uneasiness hung on the shadowed atmosphere.
It was filled with sad tranquil, just like him.
What was his name? Akanishi Jin, or Jin for that matter.
Sadly he lowered his head and stared on the grass at his feet. He heaved a heavy sigh and closed his eyes, bit his lip, and clamped his ears.
Why is he here?
What is he doing here?
Why is he alone?
Why?
*****
He tried to help it, but he couldn’t. It was way too… scary; he feared that he could not take the consequences. The fact that his life was on the verge of breaking down. Lately, he’d been falling. Falling in life, in work, in studies, and in love.
And yes, his big dilemma was an added bonus.
Jin clamped his eyes to prevent tears from falling. Bitter tears that make you realise that you failed. Tears that make you cry even more. Bitterness that makes you alone. And makes you realise that you’re alone.
He opened his eyes to see that the sky had turned into an empty black one, No stars, no moon, no trace of light. Not a shimmer of hope was there help him, to comfort him.
All was gone.
Gently he plopped himself to the grassy meadow and sighed again.
“Akanishi? What are you doing here?”
Jin moved his face away from the voice he wasn’t familiar with at the moment. “I…I’m resting.” He murmured as he played with his hair, still not facing the unwelcomed intruder.
“Well then.” The person said. “I’m resting here too.”
“What?” Jin immediately sat up out of reflex and shock. “U-Ueda-kun?” he knitted his brows in confusion as he saw his friend right before him.
Ueda grinned at his friend. “I see that you’ve quite forgotten my voice, doesn’t it.” Then he placed his palms on his knees. “Do you mind if I-”
“Uh, yes. No! Yes, erm-NO?”
The leader laughed. “I take that as a no. Arigatou then.” He nodded and sat beside Jin who was still confused.
After a few minutes of silence, Ueda stated calmly, “There are no stars tonight. It’s so… shadowed. Very eerie.”
“Hai.” Jin nodded. “No trace of light, which means there’s no hope.” He commented, sighing wistfully.
“Jin.” Ueda turned to face him. “I think there’s something wrong.” He paused, and added, “I know you would like to do things on your own since you’re so proud, but you need someone to talk to sometime. It wouldn’t hurt. And it wouldn’t taint your proud image, either.”
Jin was about to sigh again when he stopped abruptly in the middle because he wanted to retort at Ueda for saying he was proud. And when he tried to say something in reply, it came out as a snort. Ueda laughed out hard.
“Don’t laugh at me like that! It’s not funny! It was an accident, it was!” Jin shouted, flailing his arms. Ueda cast one glance at him and guffawed more.
“It’s.Not.Funny.!”
Ueda covered his hand with his mouth and calmed down. “Fine… anyway, do you want to tell me something?”
Thoughts crossed over to Jin’s head like Oh my god do I tell it to him? No, Bakanishi you don’t. Have you seen him laugh a while ago? Triple it and you get the reaction of his if you tell him your secret, so DON’T! and Ehh what do I do now? I think he’ll be fine with it, now? He’s my friend so he’d understand…
“Akanishi… does this concern about your private life?”
“Umm. Yeah.” Jin replied simply.
Ueda nodded at him. “Good.” He smiled a little. “Tell me then.” He looked up back at the dark sky. “I’ll listen.”
Jin bit his lip nervously. Would he tell?
*****
“I’m gay.” He saw the leader’s eyes widen in shock.
Silence.
Jin forced out a heartless laugh and commented, “So, now, everything changed, hasn’t it?”
Ueda faced him, jaw slightly dangling. “You’re gay?”
Jin tilted his head. “Well, to put it off more nicely I could tell I am a homo-”
He was cut short when Ueda hugged him tightly. Jin stopped babbling and smiled. Ueda was radiating off warmth, it was impossible.
“I’m so happy!” Ueda grinned at him after letting go of the hug.
“By the way,” Jin smirked. “did I tell you that you’re the one that I like?”
“What?....oh!” Ueda blushed to a pretty shade of beet red.
Jin rubbed his chin. “You looked so pretty, now that I notice.” And when Ueda was about to open his mouth in retaliation, he placed his finger on his lips. “I know you like me.” He said with a wink that he knew would make all fangirls die with happiness.
Ueda laughed playfully. “Of course not!” he turned to see Jin lying on the grass, hands under his head.
“Please do stay here.” Jin pleaded. “You could rest on my arm too.”
Ueda smiled. “Oooh. I would definitely love that."
*****
“Hmm. So… do you love me?”
“What? You only told me that you liked me, not that you loved me!”
“It’s the same.”
“NO it isn’t! Akanishi!” Ueda raised an eyebrow and looked up at Jin.
They were still both lying on the grass and decided not to get up until one of them sees a flicker of light. However, it was already 2 in the morning and nothing came.
Jin sighed. “It’s already dawn. Shouldn’t we give up on this?”
“No.” Ueda pouted.
“Besides, my arm is getting cramped. We’ve been for five hours looking for it nonstop! It wouldn’t be so hard if it hadn’t had your head rested on it!”
“It’s not my fault! You’re the one who offered me to do that, so I just agreed!”
Jin smirked. “So you love me?”
“You didn’t say you love me either! You said like!”
Jin’s smirk widened even more. “A-ha. I take that as a yes, then.”
Ueda whistled ignored Jin’s question when he spotted something. “Look! These, just a few feet away… behind that plant… there’s a firefly! See? I told you there was hope!”
*****
Jin woke up and rubbed his eyes. “That dream again.” He mumbled as smile crept to his face. Then he looked at his cell phone. There were 18 e-mails from Ueda.
Oi Akanishi!
You’re late. Better go here now! We’re waiting for you already.
Or else I wouldn’t go home. Go sleep on your thick bed ALONE!
XXX,
Ueda
Jin smiled. He’d better get there fast.
